The Association for the Development of Electronic Communications and Innovative Technologies (ACETI) joined the 5th edition of the university–industry roundtable entitled “Telecommunications in the Era of the Digital Society”, organized by the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications of the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, by organizing and supporting a thematic workshop dedicated to Internet of Things (IoT) and smart digital solutions developed in the Republic of Moldova.

The event, held on May 15, 2026, brought together representatives of academia and the business environment, the IT and telecom industries, the public sector, as well as students and young people interested in new technologies and digital transformation.

The event agenda included presentations and discussions focused on the development of digital infrastructure, 5G technologies, critical infrastructure security, smart digital ecosystems, Internet of Things (IoT), future skills, and the role of telecommunications in the development of the digital society.

ACETI President Ion Bodrug highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between universities and industry in order to develop digital skills and prepare future generations of specialists in telecommunications and innovative technologies. He also emphasized the role of partnerships between academia and the private sector in accelerating innovation and digitalization processes in the Republic of Moldova, mentioning the productive collaboration with TUM, including within the xDIH and EDIH DIH of Moldova projects.

During the thematic discussions, innovative digital solutions for SMEs, emerging technologies, and practical examples of IoT solution implementation in the Republic of Moldova were presented.

As part of the workshop organized by ACETI, Victor Domenti delivered the presentation “Internet of Things – how an electronics manufacturer develops and implements IoT solutions in the Republic of Moldova”. Representatives of iDomus demonstrated how the company develops, manufactures, and integrates “Made in Moldova” hardware and software solutions for the IoT sector, from concept development and prototyping to IIoT platform development and automated SMT assembly.

The workshop featured smart solutions for remote monitoring of gas, water, and electricity consumption, intelligent street lighting systems, building management systems (BMS), as well as the development of LoRaWAN networks for data transmission from IoT devices. Participants learned that iDomus manages a LoRaWAN network with more than 400 gateways installed in several localities across the Republic of Moldova, including Chișinău, Bălți, Ungheni, and Călărași.

The SiMBA platform for monitoring and managing smart devices was also presented, alongside solutions for collecting and analyzing consumption data, as well as smart lighting systems capable of reducing energy consumption by up to 40%.

Special emphasis was placed on promoting smart industrial technologies and the importance of developing regional innovation ecosystems. In this context, the partnership between ACETI and iDomus within the IIoT Pro Center technological center for innovation and production in Ungheni was highlighted. The initiative includes the development of a new robotic production line, an IoT development center, and a training center dedicated to Industry IoT technologies.

At the same time, modern laboratories and an automated electronic equipment assembly line equipped with advanced prototyping, testing, and smart manufacturing equipment are being developed within the center.

Through its participation in this event, ACETI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting cooperation between universities, industry, and the innovation ecosystem, contributing to the development of the digital society and the promotion of advanced technologies in the Republic of Moldova.

The workshop took place within the ACETI 4 EDIE project, implemented with the support of the Innovate Moldova Programme, funded by Sweden and the United Kingdom.
