The first European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) in the Republic of Moldova – “DIH of Moldova” – was officially launched on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in Chișinău. The event marks an important milestone for the development of the national digital ecosystem and for Moldova’s integration into the European network of digital innovation centers.

Organized by the Association for the Development of Electronic Communications and Innovative Technologies (ACETI), coordinator of the Digital Innovation Hub of Moldova consortium, the event brought together representatives of the Government, European institutions, academia, the financial sector, development partners, and the business community.

In the opening remarks, Ion Bodrug, President of ACETI and coordinator of the hub, emphasized that the launch marks the Republic of Moldova’s direct connection to the European digital ecosystem, following years of work and partnerships. He highlighted that joining the EDIH network provides local companies with access to advanced technologies, digital skills, and new development opportunities, contributing to the country’s closer alignment with the European Union. He also expressed gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Moldova, development partners, and partner organizations from Moldova and Romania for supporting this strategic project.

High-level officials and national and international experts further underlined the hub’s role in fostering a competitive and innovative economy.

Eugeniu Osmochescu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization of the Republic of Moldova, stressed the importance of EDIH-type initiatives for enhancing the competitiveness of companies and the national economy:
“Through such initiatives, which will support small and medium-sized enterprises—representing nearly 100% of the country’s economy—we help them grow, develop, and at the same time contribute to the overall growth and development of the Republic of Moldova. It is an initiative that, alongside others, integrates us into the European Union space.”

Máté Csicsai, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, highlighted the importance of aligning with European best practices in digital transformation:
“The launch of this hub is a strong example of Moldova’s commitment to digital transformation. It is a major opportunity, as a digital innovation hub serves as a gateway for businesses and institutions in Moldova to European technologies, expertise, and markets. This is not just a project, but a strategic investment in the digital transformation of the Republic of Moldova.”

Throughout the event, the concrete opportunities that EDIH “DIH of Moldova” will offer to companies and public institutions were presented. The agenda also featured contributions from national and international partners on support for SMEs, available financial instruments, regional cooperation through European Digital Innovation Hubs, and best practice examples from the European Union, including EDIH DIZ and EDIH Transilvania in Romania.

EDIH “DIH of Moldova” is a strategic initiative selected by the European Commission, aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of the national economy. The hub will operate as a one-stop shop for digitalization, providing companies—especially SMEs—with access to integrated services such as testing before investing, digital maturity assessments, specialized consulting, training programs, and support in identifying funding opportunities.

The launch of EDIH “DIH of Moldova” represents a major step forward in increasing the competitiveness of the Republic of Moldova’s economy and accelerating its digital transformation. Through this project, local companies will gain easier access to expertise, modern technologies, and European partnerships—essential elements for sustainable development in an increasingly digital economy.
