ACETI and the Digital Innovation Hub of Moldova participated in the DIZ 4.0 Conference, held on Thursday, March 26, in Iași, a landmark event for the digital innovation ecosystem in the region. The conference brought together representatives of the European Commission, leaders of digital innovation hubs, and key stakeholders from the business environment and the public sector.

Ion Bodrug, President of ACETI and Coordinator of the Digital Innovation Hub of Moldova, was a speaker in the session “Next on eDIH–DIZ 2.0”, alongside European officials and representatives of EDIHs from Romania. The discussions focused on the future of the European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) initiatives and on ways organizations can make more effective use of European instruments to accelerate digital transformation.

The importance of developing European digital innovation hubs for a coherent digital transformation was highlighted by Mihaela Lafont, an official of the European Commission, who emphasized the essential role of active involvement and the fulfillment of commitments by national authorities in co-financing these initiatives.

In his intervention, Ion Bodrug presented the journey of ACETI and DIH of Moldova, from a regional initiative supporting IT companies in northern Republic of Moldova to coordinating the first accredited European Digital Innovation Hub in the country. The President of ACETI also emphasized the key role of collaboration with partners from Romania and the mentorship provided by Digital Innovation Zone in the development of the ecosystem.

“Thanks to the collaboration and mentorship received from our colleagues in Romania, we managed to transform a regional initiative into a hub recognized at national and European levels. A very important moment for us is the signing of the contract with the European Commission and the start, on April 1, of the implementation of the first European Digital Innovation Hub in the Republic of Moldova. Today we have a clear direction and a strong consortium built on solid partnerships, enabling us to deliver solutions with real impact for companies and institutions,” said Ion Bodrug.

During the exploration session on international collaboration between higher education institutions and European Digital Innovation Hubs, ACETI Executive Director Mircea Petic presented the evolution of the Digital Innovation Hub of Moldova and the stages the hub went through on its path to becoming an EDIH, which included productive collaborations with universities from the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

In the context of close cooperation with partners from Romania, an important aspect of ACETI and DIH of Moldova’s presence at the event was the reference to the cross-border project xDIH – Cross-Border Digital Innovation Hub, developed in partnership with the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iași, the Technical University of Moldova, and Digital Innovation Zone. Co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg NEXT Romania–Republic of Moldova Programme, the project aims to create a joint digital innovation hub that will facilitate access for institutions and SMEs on both sides of the Prut River to advanced technologies, expertise, infrastructure, and innovative educational programs, thus contributing to the development of an integrated digital ecosystem dedicated to professors, students, and the business community.

Participation in DIZ 4.0 Conference reconfirms the commitment of ACETI and the Digital Innovation Hub of Moldova to strengthening cross-border collaboration and to actively contributing to the development of a digital ecosystem connected to European initiatives.
