The Association for the Development of Electronic Communications and Innovative Technologies presented a study, conducted in partnership with the Organization for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA), to uncover and highlight the existing problems and needs in terms of digital transformation among small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the results of the financing of companies to accelerate the digitalization processes. The research was made possible thanks to the implementation of the project “Digital Innovation Hub – the Optimal Formula for Regional Digital Transformation”, supported by the Future Technologies Project, funded by USAID, Sweden and the UK.

The presentation event took place today, July 17, at the Balti Consulting Center of the Organization for Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA), in the presence of the central and regional management of ODA, representatives of local public authorities and the business community.

The analysis comes at a time when companies, in order to become more competitive and resilient, need to conform to the rapidly changing modern reality and adapt to new economic trends.

ACETI President Ion Bodrug thanked the ODA partners for their cooperation and for the data provided for the preparation of the study.

“On the basis of this study, we will also develop the Digital Innovation Hub’s future strategy on digital transformation. With the help of this study we can see the demands of companies in the digitization program and what needs companies have in different regions of the country”, Ion Bodrug pointed out.

In his turn, Vadim Codreanu, Director of ODA, underlined the importance of such a study to visualize the needs of SMEs in digitalization.

“We were very happy to provide the necessary assistance to develop this study. We are glad to see interest from entrepreneurs. This report will be the basis through which we will develop further programs to support entrepreneurship and digitalization. Digitalization is a horizontal process, which is needed in all areas of the economy. We will study the recommendations of this study very carefully and will strive to turn them into applicable tools for SMEs”, said the ODA Director.

The object of analysis in the study were 150 small and medium enterprises from various business segments, which received funding under the Digital Transformation Program in the period from August 2022 to April 2024, implemented by the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development (ODA) with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova and the Future Technologies Project, funded by USAID, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The resulting document highlights both the needs of companies in digital transformation, as well as the bottlenecks that stand in the way of digitization of some enterprises, such as limited financial resources, lack of digital skills among employees or resistance to change.

The study also shows the results of the implementation of the Digital Transformation Program in terms of job creation. Thus, the financial support provided to the 150 companies during the implementation of the Program has contributed to the creation of more than 700 jobs in SMEs in the Republic of Moldova. Most jobs were created in areas such as manufacturing, education, agriculture and health.
