ACETI and the Agroindustrial College of Ungheni visited an innovative agricultural company
ACETI organized another study visit within the project “Edu – Tech – Agro – Nord – Agricultural Technology Education for the North”. The event took place on January 17 in the innovative orchard based on the international experience of the company “Nova-Plum-Fruct”.
The guests of the activity were students and teachers of the Agro-Industrial College of Ungheni, as well as representatives of the research sector.
Nova-Plum-Fruct Ltd., the host of the event, develops apple, pear and plum plantations, cultivated in a super-intensive system on land located in the rural area of the village of Corlăteni in the Riscani district, bordering the municipality of Balti. The company’s orchards are covered with protective netting and have an innovative irrigation system in which the water comes to the roots of the trees, having previously been treated at a modern treatment plant with a reverse osmosis filtration system. This substantially increases irrigation efficiency and positively influences fruit quality.
One of the main attractions of the study visit was the company’s logistic base, which includes a refrigerator in which up to 5 thousand tons of fruit can be stored simultaneously. The 18 cold rooms have a controlled atmosphere system, with no access to outside air, resulting in a higher quality of fruit preservation and thus increased economic efficiency of the business.
The company also has a packaging production line, and in the near future an automated fruit sorting and grading line will be installed, which, according to the company’s management, will further increase the quality of production, which will attract large European buyers.
Energy sustainability is another important component of Nova-Plum-Fruit’s development. The company has on its territory a photovoltaic park with a capacity of 200 kW, and the energy generated by it substantially reduces the electricity bill of the production center.
The President of ACETI, Ion Bodrug, welcomed the presence of students at the event and emphasized that we need to show young people that there is no need to leave the country to have a future specialty and a well-paid job, which is also demonstrated by numerous successful examples.
Oleg Stiopca, the manager responsible for workforce development within the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience in Moldova Project, was keen to mention that agriculture can bring beautiful achievements today, including financial ones, and there are many projects where the state supports young people to start and develop their businesses.
The future farmers showed a keen interest in the technologies used by the company and asked the hosts of the event several clarifying questions.
The project “Edu – Tech – Agro – Nord – Agricultural Technology Education for the North” is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID Moldova) through the The Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity (RCRA) and is implemented by ACETI, in collaboration with development partners.
