About us

The Digital Innovation Hub of Moldova (DIH of Moldova) is a project created in December 2021 by the Association for the Development of Electronic Communications and Innovative Technologies (ACETI), together with a group of regional, national, and international IT companies. It follows the model of the European Digital Innovation Hub from Romania, facilitating connections between startups, investors, providing access to funding for digital transformation. Simultaneously, it serves as a platform connecting companies in the region with professionals, future specialists, suppliers, and users.

Ion Bodrug, Coordinator of the Digital Innovation Hub of Moldova (created by ACETI), participated alongside other leaders of Moldova’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in a study visit to Sweden, organized by Innovate Moldova and facilitated by Open Trade Gate Sweden (OTGS).

The host country is recognized as one of the most advanced innovation-driven economies in the world — ranked 2nd globally in the WIPO Global Innovation Index, right after Switzerland. The capital city, Stockholm, also ranks 2nd in the world after Silicon Valley in terms of the number of unicorn startups per capita. This outstanding performance reflects an ecosystem built on collaboration, trust, and openness — values that the Moldovan delegation experienced throughout their visits.

During the visit, participants explored successful models and best practices from an environment that harmoniously combines digitalization, sustainability, and innovation. The delegation had the opportunity to visit leading centers and institutions shaping Sweden’s innovation landscape, including:

  • Kista Science City, Linköping Science Park, Mimer AI Factory, and NAISS – National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden – outstanding examples of collaboration between research, industry, and startups, transforming ideas into real solutions;
  • Ericsson and Intel Corporation, where participants learned how global technology giants build innovations — from early-stage research to market launch;
  • Vinnova – the Swedish innovation agency, supporting thousands of startups and applied research projects every year;
  • RISE Research Institutes of Sweden – a true bridge between academia and industry, leading initiatives in digitalization and sustainability;
  • KTH Innovation, Techarena, Impact Hub Stockholm, and Epicenter Stockholm – dynamic ecosystems connecting entrepreneurs, investors, and public institutions, inspiring impactful collaboration and development.

“The Swedish experience has shown us how collaboration between academia, government, and the private sector can accelerate digital transformation and sustainable development. We returned home with concrete ideas on how to strengthen our national innovation ecosystem and support Moldovan startups to think globally from the very beginning,” said Ion Bodrug, President of ACETI and Coordinator of the Digital Innovation Hub of Moldova.

Participants identified several key “ingredients” that make Sweden a global leader in innovation: strong cooperation among public, academic, and private sectors; trust and openness; a culture that encourages experimentation; as well as a robust digital infrastructure and forward-looking public policies.

The visit was a valuable learning experience, full of ideas, inspiration, and new connections that will contribute to the development of Moldova’s digital and innovation ecosystem and to the country’s integration into European networks of technology, research, and entrepreneurship.
